Mag Je Flirten Als Je Een Relatie Hebt. 445PM Live blog has closed for the day Thanks to everyone for following the Telegraph’s live coverage of the Duke of Sussex’s evidence against Mirror Group Newspapers on highlights from the day in the High Court includeDuke admits his memoir contradicts legal claimsPiers Morgan subjected Harry and Meghan to horrific personal attacks and intimidation’ Prince Harry says Government is at rock bottom’ in witness statementWe will be back on Wednesday for more live coverage as the Duke returns to the witness box for further then, goodbye. 442PM Court closes for the day The historic and at times gruelling court session has now closed, as lawyers ended Tuesday’s proceedings by dealing with timetable matters with Mr Justice Fancourt. “I need time to re-examine the Duke of Sussex,” Mr Sherborne told the court, after Mr Green said he will aim to finish cross-examining the Duke by lunchtime on Green, representing MGN, noted that he had gone through 21 of the 33 articles in the Duke’s claim by the end of Tuesday’s proceedings. Before finishing, Mr Fancourt reminded the Duke not to discuss his evidence with anyone, even though it might feel “peculiar” to not share Duke quipped he “won’t be facetiming” anybody. He will be back in the witness box for on Wednesday. 436PM Chelsy phone call claims previously reported Mr Green tells the court that an article in the Daily Star, published many months before the People one, revealed that Harry was spending hours on the phone to lawyer said this reveals “extensive information” about the phone calls between the couple.“Yes it does say that,” the Duke admits. He continued, “The quotes that are attributed to an insider are what remain suspicious to me,” but later admitted he could see “!similarities” between a Daily Mail article and the People story, which was published afterwards. “The level of intrusion and interest around our relationship…one quotes a passenger on a plane saying that Chelsy said she can’t wait to see me, I don’t think my girlfriend would have spoken to a passenger on a plane about our relationship,” Harry told the court. 432PM 'No-one knew details about Chelsy relationship' The Duke insists no-one was privy to his relationship with ex-girlfriend Chelsy Davy after details emerged in a People article titled Chelsy’s gap EIIR’ in April 2005 about her plans to spend more time with himDiscussing the level of detail in the article, such as Harry’s struggle being away from Chelsy and his trip to see her in South Africa, the Duke says “In regards to spending hours on the phone to Chelsy, there’s no way that anyone else would know that.“Our relationship was private, especially given the articles about us already.” 425PM Revisiting articles has been 'stressful experience' The Duke has described his appearance in the High Court to be cross-examined over articles he claims show evidence of unlawful information gathering as a “stressful experience”.He made the remarks while being questioned over a Sunday Mirror article, You did what!’, published in February 2005, which Mr Green argued came from prior story is about the farm work the Duke had to do as a punishment imposed by his father, then the Prince of Wales, for dressing up as a Nazi to a party. Harry’s legal team say the story involved a “large number’ of invoices surrounding people close to the family, whose voicemails were targeted.“Would you agree…the private information about your punishment was not obtained by the Sunday Mirror by phone hacking or any unlawful means,” Mr Green asks after listing other publications the story featured in Harry responded the Mirror’s article was a “classic example” of journalists attempting to further the story. “I can’t recall whether I read the article [at the time] but going back over it today has been a stressful experience,” Harry told the court. 418PM 'I wanted to spare friends from giving evidence' The Duke has suggested he didn’t ask friends to give evidence in the High Court over his claims of unlawful information gathering to “spare” them from the was asked why friend Guy Pelly was not asked to support his claims in court in relation to a Mirror article about Chelsy Davy wanting to break up with him in Duke said the article revealed private information about his story reported Ms Davy wanted to end the relationship over Harry’s decision to wear a Nazi uniform at a party and that he spent time in “close proximity” of an attractive brunette..Asked about the brunette claim, he says “It never happened and therefore the quotes and everything written here has been specifically inserted to distract from the correct and true means of obtaining the information.”“The article starts with she gave him a tongue lashing over the phone’ - I don’t know how anyone would have known that,” the Duke adds, saying he “can’t remember” whether he actually did receive a tongue lashing from tells the court “It appears that someone working from MGN attempted to call Guy Pelly…two days prior to the publication of these articles.”“I would want to spare most of my friends from this experience,” the Duke told Mr Green when asked why he had not asked Guy Pelly to give evidence as a result. 406PM Mirror 'advertised my travel plans' during Mozambique holiday Turning to a discussion on a 2004 Mirror article about the Duke meeting his then girlfriend Chelsy Davy’s parents, Harry said journalists checked into his hotel before he arrived and “blagged” information about his flight back from Green points out that Paul Davy, Chelsy’s uncle, gave an interview to the Mail on Sunday informing them that the Duke was about to meet her parents for the first time.“That doesn’t mean it’s true,” the Duke responds, adding that “journalists checked into the hotel before I even got there.”Turning to Harry’s witness statement, Mr Green says that he mentions that the Mirror article states him and Chelsy had been dating for eight months by that point - which was information already in the public whether he believes this information was gathered unlawfully, the Duke responds that he does, particularly about his flight back on December 19 which was included in the article.“I can’t begin to imagine how they had found that information out without flight blagging,” he tells the then accuses the Mirror journalist Jane Kerr of “advertising my travel plans,” saying “I’m at a complete loss as to how these details were obtained.”“It’s as distressing reading and looking at it now as it was when I first looked at it,” Harry adds. 328PM 'I can't remember if I wanted Burrell meeting' The Duke has admitted he cannot remember if he wanted to meet with Mr Burrell when pressed by Andrew Green during cross-examination. Mr Green repeatedly asked Harry about his feelings towards Mr Burrell after a contradiction was pointed out to him over whether he wanted to meet him or not.“There is no suggestion in Spare that you were firmly against a meeting,” said Mr Green, in contrast to an earlier responded “No, because I wrote it when I was 38 years old and in this story I was 18.“I assume I would have wanted a meeting…I’d love to give him a piece of my mind,” Harry told the he gets pressed once again by Mr Green he seems to contradict himself, saying “At the time I was firmly against the meeting - I was in the middle of the Australian outback…hindsight is a very different thing.” “I can’t remember whether I wanted a meeting or not,” Harry says when Mr Green presses him for a final time. 320PM I used 'distrust' in voicemails to brother over Paul Burrell row The Duke is now being questioned about an article in the People which reported a disagreement between him and Prince William about whether to meet their mother’s former butler .It was an article that the Duke’s lawyers yesterday claimed was the starting point of the rift between Harry and his brother that has ripped the Royal family apart.“This kind of article seeds distrust between brothers,” the Duke says.“Those were the words that I used and I certainly left voicemails on my brother’s phone [using that phrase],” the Duke says, of the story’s headline that he called Burrell “a two-faced s—”. The article being discussed isThe People Wills... Seeing Burrell is only way to stop him selling more Diana secrets. Harry no... Burrell’s a…’ Dec 28 2003 311PM Late Queen intervened into gap trip intrusion The Duke has told the High Court Queen Elizabeth II dispatched a senior aide to Australia where he was on a gap year following intrusion from the came as he was challenged on another article, entitled Beach bum Harry’, published while he was in Noosa, Queensland, in December Harry says finding him in the Australian resort on the Queensland coast would be like “trying to find a needle in a haystack”.“I have no doubt that many photographers were prepared to look for that needle in a haystack,” Mr Green Green also tells the court “Everybody has enormous sympathy with the amount of press intrusion you have suffered in your life but it does not follow that it was obtained unlawfully.”“My grandma had sent senior staff down because of the intrusion into my life,” the Duke adds, of his time in Noosa, something that he also addresses in his witness statement.“I only learnt recently that the Queen had asked one of her Assistant Private Secretaries to fly out to Noosa and take a house down the road from where I was staying, without me knowing,” he writes in his statement. 303PM Media fascination 'followed me to outback' Continuing on the Duke’s complaint against a Daily Mirror article about him quitting his gap year in Australia, Mr Green focuses on reports he had been inside watching videos to avoid the media. Asking him whether Mark Dyer, previously described as a “second dad” to Harry, had revealed the TV line to the press, Harry responded “I don’t accept that Mr Dyer would be freely speaking to the press”.“Well he is plainly speaking to the press because he is appealing to Australian broadcasters to leave you alone,” Mr Green points out. The former senior aide, who arranged Harry’s visit, was quoted as telling reporters Harry had been stuck inside to avoid all the press. “I see the similarities in all the stories you’ve shown me again proving the media fascination into my life, even when I’m in the middle of the Australian outback,” the Duke says. 301PM Harry questioned on witness statement The Duke has been questioned on whether he wrote his witness statement as Mr Green KC asked the royal if he is “just reading out something that has been drafted by your solicitors for you”. Harry replied “This whole statement was written by me after a series of video calls with my legal team while I was in California.” He says it involved “long” calls of two-and-a-half hours each time. “I’m saying this witness statement is mine, Mr Green,” he says 254PM 'Private' gap year information published in multiple newspapers Turning to the next article, a Daily Mirror story titled Harry is ready to quit Oz’ Sept 27 2003’, Mr Green points out that it quotes a St James’s Palace spokesperson. It is an article alleging that Prince Harry was considering abandoning his gap year in Australia due to unwanted media Duke claims it was a “reactionary statement” from the Palace and says he was “not aware” that a similar article appeared in multiple other newspapers on the same day. Mr Green argues the other publications have the “same private information” that is contained in the Daily Mirror article, to which the Duke responds “yes”. “It comes back to the level of competition between each of the publications,” Harry tells the court. 244PM Duke challenged over phone hacking claims The court has turned to the next article, Harry to lead cadet’s march’ April 29 2003, from the Daily Mirror. Mr Green says this is a three-sentence article, which reveals some details of Harry being selected to lead the military cadets at an Eton says it is “very suspicious” that there is no byline on the Mirror article and refuses to rule out that it was obtained by phone Green asks him whether the Press Association story revealing the same information was an issue for him, to which he responded that there is no history of phone hacking to obtain stories at PA. “Are you suggesting that just because the Mirror has admitted one incident of phone hacking, that every other article was obtained by phone hacking?” Mr Green then asks the responds “no” before going on to tell Mr Green that this particular article caused him no distress. 231PM Godfather article 'all in public domain' before publication Discussing the tenth article in the claim, Mr Green says again that the information was “all in the public domain” before the Mirror title published it. The People article, titled Matured Harry is a godfather’ April 20 2003, is about his invitation to be the godfather of his former nanny’s child and his attendance at the child’s christeningMr Green says the information about Prince Harry’s appointment as godfather had been published a week prior in the Sunday Telegraph, as had his expected attendance at the christening. “Again I see the similarities…but I don’t know how it was all obtained,” the Duke responds. Bringing up an invoice, Mr Green says it appears that a freelancer had written up the story from the Sunday Telegraph and sold it on to The People for £200. “I’ve never heard of anyone writing up a story already in the public domain and selling it for £200,” Harry says. “It’s not particularly enjoyable to go through this process again,” the Duke says when asked if he found this article distressing. 224PM Duke told he is source of own complaint Before moving on to the tenth article in the claim, Mr Green hammers home the point that Harry had revealed his birthday plans and other private information in his embargoed Press Association interview.“The position then is this - the private information of which you complain in the Daily Mirror article had been revealed by you and then published in other newspapers,” Mr Green tells the court. “I see the similarities, of course,” Harry responds, before adding that he “believes the article was connected to an invoice” and that “the timing was suspicious.” 220PM Sunday Mirror story was based on Harry interview Mr Green has now moved on to a ninth article in story No Eton trifles for Harry, 18’ was published by the Sunday Mirror in September 2002 and was based on an interview given Prince Harry to the Press Association two days before interview, which was embargoed, was then published in various Sunday newspapers, including the Sunday Times, Mr Green tells the court. It is a story about the details of how and when Prince Harry celebrated his 18th birthday with his family. “I see the similarities” between the Sunday Times and the Sunday Mirror articles, the Duke tells the court after Mr Green points out the use of the same quotes from his interview with PA 218PM Analysis Prince Harry’s paranoia reveals a man who has failed to cope with his fame Quite what “call me Prince Harry” was expecting when he strode confidently into the High Court just after on Tuesday is anyone’s guess, writes Camilla he was ushered into the Rolls Building from the back of a blacked out Range Rover, a phalanx of paparazzi snapping his every step, he even managed a smile at the press he claims has been “hostile” towards him since he “was born”.But as he became the first member of the Royal family to appear in the witness box since Edward VII was at the centre of a baccarat scandal in 1891, it soon became apparent that Oprah Winfrey this wasn’ more analysis click here. 215PM Glandular fever article was 'highly personal and distressing' Pressing the Duke on whether he checked with the Palace before stating whether they put the information about his glandular fever out “freely” or responded to a journalist’s question appears to cause some confusion in court. Harry asserts that this was a request made by MGN to him and his lawyers specifically, to check with the Palace, saying “Yes and I believe you know that.”Mr Green moves on but before he does the Duke adds “Different spokespeople for the Palace work in different ways.”He says that “public statements are only reserved for major events” and insists that the Mirror article about glandular fever was “highly personal and distressing”. Mr Green asks whether he found the same article in the Edinburgh Evening News and The Sun similarly distressing, to which the Duke responds ““I didn’t even know there was an Edinburgh Evening News today…I didn’t see the [article] in the Sun”. 208PM The 'kissing disease' article The story currently being discussed in the High Court relates to the Duke’s diagnosis of glandular feverDaily Mirror Harry’s sick with kissing disease’ March 29 2002MGN claims this story was obtained by Jane Kerr, a royal reporter who was “well connected”. They add that it was also during the period where the relationship between Mark Bolland, the then Prince of Wales’ deputy private secretary, and Piers Morgan, then Daily Mirror editor, was “at its height”, so it was “likely disclosed” by him. They said it was confirmed by a statement from a St James’ Palace spokesman, as quoted in the article. 206PM 'Kissing disease' article examined Andrew Green KC, representing the Mirror publisher, has jumped straight back into cross-examining Harry about the eighth article in Harry’s sick with kissing disease’ March 29 2002, the Daily Mirror article is about Prince Harry’s diagnosis of glandular fever. Mr Green points out that a St James’s Palace spokeswoman is quoted in the article talking about Harry’s condition.“This again was in reaction to a phone call from a journalist…based on the wording that’s used here,” the Duke interjects. “The Palace does not have a systemic habit of talking of private matters, in fact their job is quite the opposite,” he adds. 205PM Court resumes after lunch The court session has restarted after lunch 152PM Piers Morgan has subjected me to 'horrific personal attacks and intimidation' As we await the afternoon session in the High Court, a notable mention of Piers Morgan is included in the Duke’s 55-page witness his statement, Harry attacked Mr Morgan who left Good Morning Britain for saying he did not believe claims made by the Duchess of Sussex during her and Harry’s explosive Oprah Winfrey Duke alleged Mr Morgan, the former editor of the Daily Mirror, had been intimidating him and his wife since he launched legal proceedings against the publisher of the Mirror said in his statement “Unfortunately, as a consequence of me bringing my Mirror Group claim, both myself and my wife have been subjected to a barrage of horrific personal attacks and intimidation from Piers Morgan, who was the editor of the Daily Mirror between 1995 and 2004, presumably in retaliation and in the hope that I will back down, before being able to hold him properly accountable for his unlawful activity towards both me and my mother during his editorship.” 103PM Court breaks for lunch The court has now broken for lunch and will return at highlights of the morning include the following Harry says Government is at rock bottom’ in witness statementRumours King was not my father designed to oust me from Royal familyDoctor’s phone may have been hacked to uncover thumb injuryWe’ll be back from 2pm for the afternoon session. 100PM 'It's not my role to deconstruct articles' The court has moved onto the seventh article in question, a Daily Mirror article titled Harry’s cocaine ecstasy and GHB parties’ Jan 14 2002 written by Jane Harry, in his claim, has said he doesn’t know where the words “worried sick” could have come from, in relation to his father’s response to his drug taking. “I don’t think it is my role to deconstruct the articles,” the Duke tells Mr Green after the lawyer attempted to establish whether the quote marks around worried sick’ in the article were intended to show direct quotation from Charles. Pressed again by Mr Green about the fact that information was reported elsewhere first, Harry says “When an article comes out in my experience, journalists are under a huge amount of pressure to deliver the goods.”Asked whether the article itself or the breaking of the story impacted him, he tells the court “The headline itself is enough to create judgement…the headline itself let alone the article had a profound impact on me because even though I didn’t read it, there are people around me who would have read it.” 1249PM Palace co-operated with press over drugs story The court has now turned to the Duke’s allegations that the Palace sometimes cooperated with the press on stories about him, as written in his Green brought up “the editor of Britain’s biggest tabloid” - the now defunct News of the World and its former editor Rebekah Brooks - calling the then Prince of Wales about his son’s drug taking and allegedly negotiating with Green is reading from the Duke of Sussex’s memoir, Spare, about the incident, which states that the Palace co-operated with the story and Mark Bolland, “the spin doctor” decided to “spin [the Duke] right under the bus”.“I’m not entirely sure it was agreed by the Palace, but I know that was his approach…I have no idea who was involved in that other than himself,” the Duke tells the Green asks if the Palace sometimes co-operated with the press “without your consent or knowledge” on stories, to which the Duke agrees, but adds “I refer to just two occasions in my book.”“This story would have been a red rag to a bull,” he said, saying the Sunday Mirror would have “done everything they could” to further this story. 1232PM 'Harry took drugs' and 'Cool it Harry' This is the latest story to be examined by MGN lawyer Andrew Green at the High Mirror Harry took drugs’ and Cool it Harry’ Jan 13 2002A story concerning allegations that the Duke smoked cannabis and his father’s reaction to this. MGN says the information came from “a series of articles published in the first edition of the News of the World the same day”, adding that it was followed up by every other Sunday newspaper. They said the Palace had confirmed the story to the now-defunct News of the World, after the then Prince of Wales decided to cooperate with the title. The publisher adds that Prince Harry did not initially allege that the Sunday Mirror articles about this had been unlawfully sourced. 1230PM Next articles to be examined The court has now turned to the next articles in question, in the Sunday Mirror, titled Harry took drugs’ and Cool it Harry’ Jan 13 2002.These are stories concerning allegations that the Duke smoked cannabis and his father’s reaction to this. The article says that the then Prince Charles gave Harry “a stern warning” but that he understood the need to appreciate teenage years. Asked if he thinks this information was the result of phone hacking, Harry responds, “unlawful information gathering, yes”. Mr Green says that the information about the Duke smoking cannabis came from a series of articles published in the first edition of the News of the World on the same day.“The untrue information, yes,” the Duke says. 1229PM Spare memoir contains haircut 'assumption' The Duke has admitted a story about a haircut in Spare was an “assumption”.“As a kid at school, I could never have imagined how they got wind of that story so I made the assumption,” said the Duke about the story he attributed to a friend at school in his memoir. “Many years later, it seems that wasn’t the case,” he tells the Duke adds “Unfortunately many of those friends, who became paranoid over the time, are no longer my friends.“The more this happens over time, the less you share with people…I become paranoid about the people around me.”At the time of the article in question, Prince Harry was a schoolboy at the prestigious public school Eton College. 1221PM Doctor's phone may have been hacked, Duke suggests Prince Harry has now suggested that the doctor’s phone may have been hacked in order for the information about his broken thumb to have gotten out while he was at school. “Do you find it implausible that the information may have come from a fellow schoolmate?” Mr Green, representing MGN, asks. “I do not,” the Duke responds, but said he “can’t be sure”. Mr Green points out that in Spare, the Duke’s memoir, he revealed that some school friends would reveal information about him to the press - for example, information about a haircut. The Duke says he wrote the book “in hindsight”. 1219PM Harry 'can't remember' reading article when published “Are we not in the realms of total speculation?” Mr Green has asked Prince Harry about claims that someone was phone hacked to get the broken thumb story. “I’m not the one who wrote the article, you’d have to ask the journalist,” the Duke responds. He says he “can’t remember” reading the article at the time, but adds “There were certain people that read the BBC, the Mirror, the Mail and just because a story has originated somewhere else it doesn’t mean that the people around me haven’t read the information.”“Everybody would have known that I broke my thumb at that point but I don’t believe that any newspaper had the right to talk about it,” he adds. In response to a question about the palace spokesperson’s comments about his injury, he insists it would have been made in response to journalists. 1216PM Thumb injury first reported by news agency Mr Green has asked Prince Harry whether he has also complained to a press agency about reporting about his broken thumb.“Have you expressed any concerns to the Press Association about divulging information about the injury to your thumb?” He asks the Duke.“I have not,” Harry responds, adding that he is only now aware it was reported by PA Green then asks whether he has complained about the reporting of the same injury in the Evening Mail, the Evening Standard and the Edinburgh Evening News.“No I haven’t because it’s not systemic within the Edinburgh Evening News, I believe…unlawful information gathering,” he some of the article in court that is attributed to a doctor, the Duke says “Not only do I have no idea how they would know that, but that instils all sorts of paranoia for a boy in school who needs to go to the medical centre but who now can’t trust the doctors.” 1209PM Article four - Harry's thumb injury Daily Mirror Snap ... Harry breaks thumb like William; Exclusive’ Nov 11 2000The story is about an injury Prince Harry sustained to his thumb, which he alleges is private information. MGN said the information came from “extensive” prior reports in the public domain and had already been disclosed to the press by the Palace. They say it had been reported the day before by the Evening Standard, the Evening Mail and the Edinburgh Evening News - referring to what St James’s Palace had said and included quotes from “a Palace spokeswoman”.The Duke tells the court that he doesn’t believe reporting about his broken thumb is “ in the public interest”. 1208PM Going to pub gave me 'some semblance of life' Prince Harry tells the court he wanted to have “some semblance of a life” by attending gastro pubs and restaurants and nightclubs with his friends. “I recall occasions like that when I was occasionally out and about wanting to have some semblance of a life but leaving a club, restaurant, pub and being photographed,” the Duke tells the court, talking about the article from 2000 in the Daily Mirror. The court has now moved on to another Daily Mirror article - the fourth to be examined by MGN lawyer Andrew Green KC. 1206PM Duke's court sketch Court artist sketch by Elizabeth Cook of the Duke of Sussex with his counsel David Sherborne giving evidence at the Rolls Buildings, with Mr Justice Fancourt looking on, during the phone hacking trial against Mirror Group Newspapers MGN. 1203PM Photographer may have waited for me at pub The Duke is being shown photographs taken of him during the day in 2000, which Mr Green has pointed out came from a photographer from an agency, which shares their pictures with Green said the photographer might have been able to rush to the pub to take the pictures once he heard the Duke was there. “He could have been there before I got there,” the Duke counters. Mr Green then brings up that the chef at the gastropub is a famous celebrity chef, Ed Baines, who is quoted in news articles about Harry’s appearance at his pub, saying that he could have called the press himself.“If those are indeed his quotes,” the Duke interjects, adding that Baines, as the chef, was probably too busy to have done that. 1200PM Harry asked to speak louder As the judge returned to court after a short break, the Duke’s barrister David Sherborne said he’d been asked on behalf of a number of people in court and watching proceedings remotely if Harry could “raise his voice”.Harry then laughed as Andrew Green KC, for MGN, joked “I hope not raise it in anger.” 1157AM Third article being examined Daily Mirror 3am - Harry’s time at the bar’ Sept 19 2000An article about Prince Harry’s 16th birthday celebrations which he claims divulges private information regarding his personal life, including his whereabouts at a lunch in Chelsea, London, to celebrate his birthday with friends. Mirror Group deny the claims and argue that photographers had been tipped off that Harry was in the pub and that he was photographed “after being spotted” and garnering “considerable attention” from people present at Sunday lunch. They say the story contains “limited and banal” information about his lunch, and that the paparazzi pictures were not published. 1156AM 'I don't walk down streets' Prince Harry’s cross-examination by Andrew Green KC, representing the Mirror publisher, has now turned to the third article in his claim against the three titles. The article in the Daily Mirror, titled 3am - Harry’s time at the bar’ Sept 19 2000, about Prince Harry’s birthday celebrations which he claims divulges private information regarding his personal life, including his whereabouts at a lunch in Chelsea, London, to celebrate his birthday with friends. Mr Green points out that Sunday lunchtime on Fulham Road is a “busy time” and that people may have seen Prince Harry walking down the street. “No, I don’t walk down streets,” the Duke responds. 1147AM Harry in court 'licking his lips and fidgeting with suit' Prince Harry has been struggling to find the various articles and documents in the many bundles of paperwork he has in front of him, writes Victoria Ward in the High appears nervous, repeatedly licking his lips, fidgeting with his suit and clearing his Green is determined to focus on the specific detail, forensically analysing each article as he tries to establish exactly which part of each article Harry believes was obtained unlawfully and how that was Duke has been forced to admit that he has “little to go on” - instead making several broader statements about press intrusion and the impact it on whether he believed one specific line in a story came from phone hacking, he said “I can’t be sure. You would have to ask the journalists themselves.”Mr Green has pointed out that much of the information contained in the relevant articles was already in the public concerned his plans to go rock climbing with Prince William.“But Prince Harry, there was no need for the Daily Mirror journalists to use unlawful means because the information had already been published by the Daily Mail and the Mail on Sunday,” Mr Green said.“That could be correct… “ came the reply. 1144AM Court takes short break Before the cross-examination moves onto the next article, the court has taken a short break. 1144AM Phone hacking occurs even when stories are in public domain, Duke says The Duke has insisted that Mirror journalists could still have obtained information from phone hacking, even in the case when some of the information was in the public domain in previous articles from other publications. “Based on my understanding and what I know, just because there was a story previously, doesn’t stop a journalist from attempting to take it further,” Prince Harry says. Mr Green asks whether this doesn’t strike the Duke as a “little unfair”. 1139AM Newsroom competition drove 'desperate' need for royal stories Asked by Mr Green if he was aware that MGN denies the unlawful gathering of information, the Duke says he is, but insists that it is “impossible to believe”. He tells the court “That’s impossible to believe given the level of interest myself at the time as well as how desperate journalists were for something Royal.”“Mirror Group has admitted to elements of phone hacking already, I believe, and the competition between newsrooms means there’s going to be a desperate need to find out anything about our private lives,” he adds. Mr Green then shows the Duke a Daily Mail article, from July 15 2000, two days before the Daily Mirror article he is complaining about, that reveals the Princes were not going to be present at the Queen Mother’s gala pageant. 1133AM The second article Daily Mirror Princes take to the hills for gala’ July 17 2000This article is about the Duke of Sussex’s plans to go on a rock climbing trip with his brother rather than attending a gala pageant for the Queen Mother. MGN denies getting this information unlawfully, saying that it had already been reported in Daily Mail and Mail on Sunday stories beforehand which confirmed the brothers absence from the gala and their rock climbing plans. They say the non-attendance had already been confirmed by Buckingham Palace at that point. 1132AM Second article being examined by MGN The court has turned now to the second article in the Duke’s claim, Princes take to the hills for gala’ July 17 2000.The Daily Mirror article is about the Duke of Sussex’s plans to go on a rock climbing trip with his brother rather than attending a gala pageant for the Queen Green asks whether the Duke thinks that some of the information in this article is a result of phone hacking, asking who’s mobile is likely to have been hacked.“I believe it could have been anyone from myself to my brother to Paddy Haverson,” the Duke responds. Mr Harverson is the former communications secretary for the then Prince of Wales, but Mr Green points out that he wasn’t appointed until 2004 so would not be a possibility. The Duke tells the court that “there’s quite a lot of quotes and suspicious information” in the article, adding that “part of the reason we were going rock climbing 270 miles away was because of press intrusion”. 1125AM MGN lawyer moves on from first article Mr Green will now cross-examine the Duke on a second he does so, the Duke claimed evidence of invoices to third parties such as private investigators has been “destroyed”.“Knowing what I know and in my experience, the vast majority of stories that appeared were the result of some form of unlawful activity, even if they appeared in other newspapers beforehand,” the Duke tells the court. In the case of the 1996 Daily Mirror article, Mr Green pushes that the Duke has no evidence of invoices relating to it. “I think a lot of the evidence was destroyed,” the Duke says, adding that he finds the timing of the invoices “incredibly suspicious”. 1118AM 'I don’t know how anyone would know that' Mr Green now turns to the mention of Paddy Whiteland, the family’s late former gardener who was in hospital at the time with cancer. The 1996 article says that Prince Harry would “probably be as distressed as his father” at the gardener’s illness.“I don’t know how anyone would know that,” Prince Harry responds, to which Mr Green brings up previous reports of the then Prince Charles discussing the family’s “warm relationship” with the gardener. Mr Green says that previous articles referred to the fact that Princes Harry and William would visit the gardener at his home often.“There were lots of people that worked on my fathers estate,” the Duke says, but adds that “as far as I can remember” Mr Whiteland’s ill-health was upsetting to Duke later quips “I feel like we’re doing a workout,” as he is handed bundle after bundle to refer to during his cross-examination. 1114AM Harry questioned over mother's statements Still discussing the 1996 Daily Mirror article about Princess Diana’s visit to Ludgrove, Mr Green asks the Duke where he thinks his mother’s statements come from. “It seems my mother was responding to a question, but this was specifically PA and as I believe I’ve said already - when anyone copies or repurposes any element of what’s happened before, it goes to a wider audience so more people would find out about that,” the Duke responds. “The explanation that my mother gave would probably have been like a red flag to a bull to any journalist,” he article itself refers to Princess Diana visiting Prince Harry at Ludgrove School on his 12th birthday. The Duke alleges that private information was leaked about his family life, namely the details of his feelings regarding his parents’ Group deny that this story was the result of unlawful information gathering, saying that the fact Diana was visiting her son at school had been publicly confirmed by her spokesman to the Press Association two days before. 1108AM Mirror divorce story had 'no legitimacy' The Duke is responding to questions over an article published by the Daily Mirror in 1996 which mentions his feelings about the then Prince Charles and the late Princess of Wales’s divorce.“Like most children, I took their divorce badly. I don’t think the quote is a guess, I think specific information was found out…I wouldn’t say it was an assumption,” Prince Harry told the adds that the Daily Mirror article is “littered” with elements of private Green asks whether that information was likely to have come from phone hacking.“The article itself and every if not most of the elements in it were intrusive, and the journalist himself had no legitimacy to put it into a newspaper,” the Duke responds, adding that the obtaining of that information seems “incredibly suspicious” to him. 1105AM Diana's Eton visit reported by Press Association Mr Green brings up the fact that the Press Association had reported that Princess Diana was due to visit the Prince for his 12th birthday at Ludgrove school before any of the Mirror titles did.“I wasn’t aware of that,” the Duke says. Mr Green points out that Diana’s spokeswoman had confirmed her appearance to PA.“But the information there is vastly different to the information in the article itself,” the Duke told the court that observers coming to his school to “catch a glimpse of his mother” did not happen often.“I can’t remember anyone being there on my birthday,” he says, after Mr Green asks whether that was possible. 1059AM Harry questioned over 'paranoid' claims Mr Green, representing MGN, has asked the Duke “how he became hugely paranoid” if he didn’t read the articles.“Many of the articles I did read,” the Duke says, adding “The vast majority were attributed to a pal, a friend, a source, an onlooker, which actually creates more suspicion about where the articles come from.”“As a child growing up and throughout my teenage years, I was under press invasion for most of my life up until this day,” he adds. 1052AM Stories played 'destructive' role in childhood, Duke tells High Court Mr Green has asked the Duke again whether he was aware of the content of the articles at the time of publication - which this case concerns Mirror title articles from 1996 to 2011. “The claimant was upset at the time the articles were published,” Mr Green reads from the court documents. “As a child, every single one of these articles played an important and destructive role in my growing up,” the Duke responds, still insisting that he may not have been aware of the specific content of the articles. “There’s more than thousands, perhaps millions of articles that have been written about me since age 12,” he adds. “Because it’s 20 years ago I simply can’t speculate about how it was…I certainly saw a lot of articles at the time”. “When private information that I have only shared with one or two people ends up on the front page of a newspaper - your circle of friends starts to shrink and diminish,” the Duke tells the court. 1049AM Harry's witness statement in full 1047AM Harry questioned over witness statement Turning now to the Duke’s 55-page witness statement, the Duke confirms he is trying to hold people in the press “to account”.Mr Green asks about the statement “How much more blood will stain their typing fingers before someone will put a stop to this madness,” which the Duke wrote, referring to journalists.“Who has blood on their hands?” Mr Green Duke says “Some of the editors and journalists who are responsible for some of the pain and sadness and inadvertently death.”He adds that the statement was written “more broadly towards the tabloid press itself” than any particular people in the media.“I haven’t named the journalists in that particular paragraph,” he says, saying his “hope” by giving evidence is to bring a stop to it all. 1045AM 'Press have been hostile since I was born' The Duke has claimed he has experienced hostility from the press since he was whether it would be right to say that he had a longstanding hostility to the press due to the press intrusion in his life, the Duke said it would be.“Finding out about the unlawful methods of how the information of these articles was obtained certainly shocked me,” he told the court. 1043AM Duke asked whether he read articles in question Mr Green is pressing the Duke on whether he read the articles in question at the time of publication, India McTaggart reports.“I didn’t say that I didn’t read them at the time,” Harry adds “Newspapers are always in every single Palace, unfortunately, as well as that some of the articles I may have not remembered or seen at the time - the vast majority of them were read by other people in my circle.”As a result of the articles, he said their behaviour “changed around me”.“The era is somewhat different compared to now and in 1996, I was a child, I was at school. These articles are incredibly invasive and every single time these articles were written it had an effect on me, my life and the people around me - including my mother,” he told Mr Green.“This is approximately 20 years ago, I would be speculating if I said I can remember exactly reading these articles when I was 12-years-old,” he added, when pressed 1040AM Prince Harry says Government is at rock bottom’ in witness statement The Duke of Sussex has made an extraordinary intervention into politics, claiming that the Government is at “rock bottom”.Prince Harry, 38, used the witness statement he lodged in a High Court case against a tabloid newspaper to liken the state of the Government to that of the 55-page statement was released on Tuesday as he began giving evidence in the case against Mirror Group Newspapers MGN over unlawful information gathering, including phone more here. 1039AM Articles chosen by Harry 'showed most obvious elements of unlawful activity' Mr Green, for the Mirror publishers, confirms that originally the claim brought 143 articles about the Prince published in the three Mirror titles, of which 33 were chosen. “I believe there’s over 140 articles in total [in his claim] and 33 in question today,” the Duke confirms. He agrees that he selected the articles to bring to his claim “together” with his solicitors. Asked what criteria was used to choose the articles in question, the Duke responds “The ones that showed the most obvious elements of intrusive and unlawful activity.” 1037AM Harry receives apology as cross-examination begins Andrew Green KC, representing Mirror Group Newspapers MGN has now begun his cross-examination of Prince Harry, urging him to say so if he considers a question too intrusive, India McTaggart brings up MGN’s “unreserved apology” to the Duke at the beginning of the trial, saying that one incident of unlawful information gathering the publisher admitted to “should have never happened and it will not happen again”. 1032AM Harry enters witness box The Duke of Sussex has made history today as he entered the witness box at 1030am in Court 15 in the Rolls Building, the modern wing of the Royal Courts of Justice - becoming the first senior member of the Royal family to give evidence in 132 was invited to take the oath and poured himself a glass of water before his lawyer, David Sherborne, asked him how he would be preferred to be addressed. “You’d rather be called Prince Harry,” he noted, to which the Duke nodded. 1027AM Courtroom falls silent as Harry enters The Duke has entered Court 15 of the Rolls Building, the High Court’s modern annexe, Victoria Ward packed courtroom fell silent as he entered and took a seat alongside his legal team. 1025AM Analysis Prince Harry’s army training will help him during court case The Duke of Sussex’s military training will help him cope with being cross-examined when he takes the stand in his court case against the publisher of the Daily Mirror, according to a royal Seward told GB News “The only thing that Harry does have on his side is he’s got that army training. And if you believe what he said in his book were which I presume we all do, he’s been through some very intense difficult moments during his army training.“They really got to him and said terrible things about his mother, this was training that he went through and he was abused. I think that will stand him in good stead because most people when they go to court haven’t got anything like that.“But I think Harry will find it absolutely exhausting and very scary and he can’t deviate from what the judge is asking him so there’s no point in rambling about anything else. He’s got to just answer the questions as asked.”In a discussion with Eamonn Holmes and Isabel Webster, she continued “The problem is that he’s got no proof. He’s got he said that he’s been hacked and we probably all believe him. But he’s got to produce evidence and I think he’s going to find that very difficult.” 1014AM Pictured Harry arrives to give evidence This is the landmark moment the Duke of Sussex arrived at the High Court to give evidence in his trial against Mirror Group will become the first senior royal to enter the witness box in court for 130 years when he is sworn in on Tuesday morning. 950AM Duke targeted by satirist outside High Court Kaya Mar with his political artwork outside court The Duke of Sussex has been targeted by a political satirist outside the High Court as he prepares to give evidence in his trial against Mirror Group caricaturist Kaya Mar is among the banks of photographers and reporters awaiting the Duke’s arrival at court on Tuesday Mar, who has previously targeted Boris Johnson and Theresa May with his political cartoons, told the Telegraph he created the artwork ahead of Harry and Meghan’s wedding.
